Across the country, people have joined H4H, people who are not arguing about the rights and wrongs of war, people who just want to do something to help. We can’t prevent wars. We can’t stop our young men and women from being hurt. But we can help them get better. Long-term injuries need long-term solutions. Help for Heroes works to supplement the available facilities and care so that those in rehabilitation get the very best facilities and treatment in order to recover from their injuries and rebuild their careers.

AS WELL AS THE RISING DEATH TOLL FOR UK FORCES IN AFGHANISTAN, THE OFTEN UNREPORTED SCALE OF INJURIES IS HUGE. |
For the period 1st January 2006 to 30th June 2009, centrally available records show that:

It seems nearly every day that we hear about someone else being killed in Afghanistan. It's tragic.
What we don't hear so much about is the many more returning with significant life changing injuries. They do a job most of us couldn't even contemplate. The least we can do is make sure they get the best possible care when things go wrong. I'm just doing my bit to support Help for Heroes….
I’m Richard. I’m no athlete, I don't go to a gym and I'm not a member of a running club. Up until recently a vigorous workout would have consisted of a few games of darts in the local! I’m just a regular 39 year old bloke who started jogging last year in the name of keeping fit.
But in 2010 I will be completing at least 26 marathons covering every corner of the UK. I have chosen (generally) the lesser known events……unsung marathons for our unsung heroes!
I’ve already completed a 45 mile run from Wendover to London in January, and invented and completed a unique 4ootball marathon - running 4 marathons non-stop between 4 football grounds in 24 hours finishing the 'ordeal' with a lap of Watford's Vicarage Road pitch during half-time of their game with Peterborough United in March. Whilst I was in a field of just one, I can at least claim to have won a marathon race!
In August I ran a Stadia Marathon - A 38 mile run starting at Wembley, then taking in Lords, Twickenham, and Wimbledon, before finishing at Crystal Palace Athletics Stadium, running a lap of the track with British high jumper Martyn Bernard.
The rest of the runs are a mixture of conventional 26 and a bit mile marathons with some slightly longer ones thrown in for good measure!
Just in case the running wasn’t enough of a challenge I've also been completing a series of military themed activities to test my Civvie Street credentials (not to mention my real fear of heights) to the limit! I've recently jumped (at least fallen gracefully) out of a plane; abseiled from one of the towers in Canary Wharf; and completed a 30 mile endurance run – the final element of the Commando test.
I’m looking to raise what is a huge amount of money. But all contributions however large or small will be very welcome.
